Sight-based Magnification System for Surgical Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work presents the development of an augmented reality magnification system implemented in a head-mounted display for surgical applications. The system provides a magnified view with a novel control based on tracked sight orientation. The system was evaluated by measuring the completion time of a suturing task performed by surgeons. The magnifying approach implemented provided global context of the operating field. The sight-based activation was widely accepted by surgeons as a useful functionality to control viewing modalities.

a variety of configurations and magnifications. With the aid of a fiberoptic headlamp system, light can be projected in the line of sight to prevent the creation of shadows in the surgical field and render optimal visualization of the treatment site. However, the magnification of loupes is limited (2.5 to 6.0 ) and their optics are convergent, which creates eye strain and fatigue. In order to a...
متن کاملCosmology from Supernova Magnification Maps
High-z Type Ia supernovae are expected to be gravitationally lensed by the foreground distribution of largescale structure. The resulting magnification of supernovae is statistically measurable, and the angular correlation of the magnification pattern directly probes the integrated mass density along the line of sight. Measurements of cosmic magnification of supernovae therefore complements gal...
متن کاملCharacterization and in-vivo evaluation of a multi-resolution foveated laparoscope for minimally invasive surgery
The state-of-the-art laparoscope lacks the ability to capture high-magnification and wide-angle images simultaneously, which introduces challenges when both close- up views for details and wide-angle overviews for orientation are required in clinical practice. A multi-resolution foveated laparoscope (MRFL) which can provide the surgeon both high-magnification close-up and wide-angle images was ...

This thesis describes the development and testing of the Optical Coherence Tomography Microsurgical Augmented Reality System (OCT-MARS). This system allows surgeons to view real-time medical image data as an in situ overlay within the surgical field. There are a number of clinical applications for which real time, in situ visualization of otherwise transparent structures of the eye would be ben...
متن کاملGravitational Lens Magnification and the Mass of Abell
We present the first application of lens magnification to measure the absolute mass of a galaxy cluster; Abell 1689. The absolute mass of a galaxy cluster can be measured by the gravitational lens magnification of a background galaxy population by the cluster gravitational potential. The lensing signal is complicated by the intrinsic variation in number counts due to galaxy clustering and shot–...
